EMMI workshop

Quarks, Hadrons, and the Phase Diagram of QCD

31st of August 2009 - 3rd of September 2009,
St. Goar, Germany

--------------------------

The aim of this workshop is to bring together leading international experts and young researchers on

  • - Mapping the phase diagram of QCD
  • - Quark and gluon confinement at non-zero temperature and density
  • - Chiral symmetry breaking and restoration
  • - Approaches to the phase diagram of QCD: Lattice, continuum, and models
  • - Matter out of equilibrium
  • - Heavy ion collisions
  • to present and discuss recent developments and fundamental issues.

    --------------------------

This workshop focuses mainly on theoretical aspects, but will also include presentations of ongoing and upcoming experiments.
It is the second at St. Goar on QCD, following the 415th Wilhelm & Else Heraeus Seminar "Quarks and Hadrons in strong QCD", which took place in March 2008.

The number of participants is limited to about 40-50. About a third of the time will be filled with shorter talks, in particular from young researchers. Ample time is forseen for further discussions. A permanent presentation of posters will be possible.

    Confirmed speakers :

  • - P. Arnold (Virginia)
  • - J. Berges (Darmstadt)
  • - J.-P. Blaizot (Saclay)

The workshop will take place from the 31st of August 2009 to the 3rd of September 2009 at the Hotel Rheinfels in St. Goar, Germany, conveniently located between the airports Frankfurt/Main and Hahn. Rooms will be booked during the registration.

From Frankfurt/Main airport (Regionalbahnhof), you can get a connection approximately every half hour. The ride takes about one to one and a half hour. However, you will have to switch the train always once, but the details where to switch depends on the time. The cost is about 15-22 Euros for one way, depending again on the connection, and thus the quality of the trains. Please use the web-page of the Germain railway Deutsche Bundesbahn (can be switched to English). You can also buy tickets in advance there.

From the airport Hahn, a connection leaves about every fourty minutes. In this case, you will first have to take a bus, and then switch to a train (and possibly change the train once or twice thereafter). Again, it depends on the time of your connection where you have to switch. The costs are about 10-15 Euros, and the ride takes about two to three hours. Details can be found again on the webpage of the Deutsche Bundesbahn. However, not for all connections it is possible to buy your ticket online in this case.

Please note for your travel plans that the workshop starts early on the 31st of August (09:00, registration opens at 08:00) and will continue into the late afternoon of the 3rd of September (16:00 or later).

    --------------------------

The conference fee is 100,- Euro for registration until 15th of May 2009, and 276,- Euro afterwards, including lunch and dinner from Sunday evening until Thursday noon. We can offer limited financial support upon request.
