The fee of 800 EURO covers the local costs in Erice including full board and lodging. Lunch and dinner will be provided at local restaurants. Drinks, beverages, and after-dinner coffee at the restaurants, telephone calls, personal laundry, etc. are not covered. Note that each accompanying person has to pay the fee as well.
The fee can be paid by bank transfer or in cash. No credit cards are accepted!
The fee should be paid to the following payee and account:
When the payment is made, you have to indicate "ISNP- 2010-your_name" (e.g. "ISNP- 2010-Smith"; ISNP="International School of Nuclear Physics") as the purpose of the transfer.
Please make the transfer at least three weeks in advance to be sure that the payment is in Erice at the start of the School. Evidence of the payment (a bank confirmation) must be provided at the registration time in Erice. Otherwise the Centre will charge you 800 Euro in cash. The bank statement should also be used for refunding your travel expenses at home because the centre has often difficulties to prepare a receipt before you leave.
Payment in cash is possible, but it is advised to use bank transfer. To pay in cash in Erice has turned out to be very time consuming because only one person, who is not regularly present, is allowed to sign a receipt. It is therefore often extremely difficult to get a receipt, especially for those, who do not pay at the beginning of the school.
In order to arrange the transportation from the airport in Palermo to Erice and to reserve the rooms in Erice, the "Centro Ettore Majorana" needs the following information:
If you bring along accompanying persons, you should indicate that as well.
The fax should be send before the middle of August 2010. The center is not reading e-mails and does not confirm faxes. Therefore do not send an e-mail and do not expect an answer to your fax.
The bus will leave Palermo airport on September 16th at 15:00. We will have a car or a bus also later on this day. This bus will be arranged according to your fax.
If you arrive on a day other than September 16 you must come from the airport in Palermo to Erice ( 100 km) at your own cost. A taxi costs about 110 to 120 Euros. (Ask for the price!)
Registration and room allocation is upon your arrival on September 16th at the secretariat of the School ("San Rocco", Via Guarnotta 26, Erice, see Map of Erice) not later than 5 p.m. Please, do not try to make reservations directly in hotels in Erice. Participants will be accommodated in rooms with one or two beds, the majority with shower or bath.
Transportation to the airport on September 24 will be organized during your stay in Erice. You can catch the planes departing after 7 a.m. on September 24. Transportation on other days is in your own responsibility.
Operations in Erice are managed by Mrs. Fiorella Ruggiu (telephone: 00390/923/869107) to whom you should refer for any specific needs.
Several personal computers as well as WLAN access are available at the Centro Ettore Majorana.
The scientific program will be available at the end of July 2010.
Stand-alone capabilities for projecting powerpoint or pdf talks are available at the lecture hall. The presentations should preferentially be uploaded via memory stick. It is also possible to use personal laptops.
On Tuesday, September 21, 2010, we will have an excursion to the Greek temples of Selinunte and Segesta and to the quarry (Cave di Cusa), where about 2500 years ago the stones for the three temples in the east temple district and for the many temples on the Akropolis of Selinunte were broken. The quarry is still in the same state as in 409 b. Ch., when Carthage destroyed Selinunte. We will have lunch in the restaurant "Lido Azzuro" at a sand beach, where there is also the possibility to swim. In the late afternoon we will visit the Greek theater and the temple in Segesta.
On Sunday afternoon, September 19, we will go the nicest sand beach of Sicily in San Vito lo Capo. Umbrellas and beach chairs will be available at no cost.
Upon arrival you will receive a badge, which allows you to have lunch and dinner in about 10 restaurants in Erice. A list of these restaurants will be given to you by the Centro Ettore Majorana. Typically you have the choice between three menus with pasta or antipasti, main dish and desert. Afterwards you must sign in a list. Drinks and beverages must be paid by yourself directly to the restaurant. Lunch is typically between 13 and 15 h and dinner between 20 and 22 h.
Breakfast for the participants staying in one of the three former monasteries (San Rocco, San Francesco and San Domenico) is between 7:30 h and 9:00 h in San Rocco. Participants in hotels have breakfast there.
During the whole day you can find food, coffee, fruits, and mineral water in the breakfast room in San Rocco. So if a full lunch and dinner is too much for you, you can take something there. Also during the coffee breaks you can get mineral water, fruits and rolls. Free mineral water with and without gas is also in the refrigerator in your room in the three former monasteries. Do not drink water from the tap.
The proceedings of the School will be published in "Progress in Particle and Nuclear Physics" (by Elsevier). The manuscripts have to be prepared as a LaTeX file with EPS figures inserted according to the template file ppnp_style.tex (please, download and use it). The ps or pdf file of the contribution along with LaTeX source file and EPS figures should be sent to vadim.rodin@uni-tuebingen.de.
The allowed length of the contributions will be specified in due course.
Deadline: November 20th, 2010
By car there are two possibilities:
By train:
From Milan-Rome via Messina you can reach Trapani directly.
By plane:
To Palermo. For arrival and departure at normal times (September 16th and September 24th) the School will make local transport arrangements, see above.
In September the weather is warm in Erice, but cooler than in the rest of Sicily since it lies at 750 metres above sea level. During the excursions you have the possibility to swim in the sea.
